The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane, illustrated by Jackie Morris is a magical book which celebrates words we use to describe nature, following concerns that some of these words are starting to vanish from our children's vocabulary. It's considered such an important book that a Scottish fundraising project succeeded in raising tens of thousands of pounds so that every primary school in the country was gifted a copy.
We have now set in motion a project to try and do the same for Leicester and Leicestershire: we, The Bookshop contribute £5 per book and invite customers to sponsor the remaining £15, or any amount as a contribution. With a £15 sponsorship comes the opportunity to nominate a school in the city or county to receive a copy of the book. If you'd like to do this, please choose the 'full donation' option and we'll be in touch about which school you'd like to gift a copy to.
Let's all get behind this wonderful book and see how many children in our city and county we can get copies to!

"This book seems to bring/catalyse change. We are lucky to be involved with it and all the generous people who have set its goldfinches flying around the country"
